Angel Reese Proudly Shares Her ‘Biggest Flex’ Following Caitlin Clark’s WNBA Award Win, Showcasing Her Resilience and Determination .giang

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese has faced her share of scrutiny after receiving just one vote for WNBA Rookie of the Year, a decision that prevented Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark from becoming only the fifth unanimous winner of the award in league history. While Reese has been criticized for receiving that lone vote, she had a strong rookie season that deserves recognition.

Reese’s first year in the WNBA saw her average an impressive double-double, posting 13.6 points and a league-leading 13.1 rebounds per game. She also contributed defensively, averaging 1.3 steals per game and setting several league records along the way. Despite her solid stats, many on social media mocked her for her offensive struggles, especially her shooting percentage, as she shot just 39.1% from the field, raising doubts about her offensive skill set.

Reese, 22, has not yet made any direct comments about Caitlin Clark winning the Rookie of the Year award. However, she did post a pointed message on her Instagram Story on Friday that seemed to address those criticizing her for not winning the honor.

The message read, “My biggest flex is not having to flex because I’m unapologetically ME and IDGAF how anyone feels about it,” a clear indication that Reese is staying true to herself despite the backlash.

This defiant attitude mirrors the name of her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, where Reese has often spoken about embracing who she is and not letting criticism affect her. Known for her bold and unapologetic personality, Reese has often drawn the ire of critics who aren’t comfortable with her confident demeanor.

But that same personality has also earned her loyal supporters, including NBA legend Dwyane Wade, former WNBA MVPs Sheryl Swoopes and Candace Parker, and NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, all of whom have publicly supported her.

Reese’s rivalry with Caitlin Clark stretches back to their college days, where the two frequently faced off in high-profile matchups. Early in the WNBA season, Reese made subtle comments about Clark, fueling the competitive fire between the two rising stars.

Despite the competition, Reese’s focus remains on her own journey, refusing to conform to outside expectations.

Unfortunately, Reese’s rookie season was cut short after she missed the Sky’s final six games due to a wrist injury. Despite this setback, her overall performance throughout the season has established her as one of the league’s most promising young players.

Though she may not have claimed Rookie of the Year, Reese’s future in the WNBA looks bright, and her refusal to back down from criticism only strengthens her resolve.

For now, Reese is embracing her identity both on and off the court, determined to continue improving her game while remaining true to herself.

As she stated in her Instagram post, she doesn’t feel the need to “flex” to prove anything to anyone, and her journey is far from over. With her talent, drive, and the support of her fans, Reese has all the tools to make an even bigger impact in the seasons to come.
