Garrett Wilson produced the catch of his life as the New York Jets saved their season with a win over the Houston Texans, as Aaron Rodgers’ prediction came true.

Wilson scored two touchdowns during a 21-13 win over the Texans on “Thursday Night Football” to improve the Jets to 3-6, but his second score will forever be included in NFL highlight reels. The Jets were 3rd-and-19 on the 27-yard line and chasing the game, when Wilson hauled in the ball with one hand despite coverage from Texans cornerback Kamari Lassiter.

The play was initially waved away as Wilson appeared out of bounds, but a successful challenge was made by interim Jets head coach Jeff Ulbrich. Officials decided that Wilson was in bounds after his right shin was marked down by the finest of margins.

It capped off a stunning 90-yard game by Wilson who had nine receptions and two touchdowns, following a 113-yard game against the New England Patriots in Week 8. There were some concerns over how Wilson would be used when the Jets traded for wide receiver Davante Adams on Oct. 15, but quarterback Rodgers knew it would benefit him.

“I think it’s really going to help Garrett out,” Rodgers said of Adams’ presence after the trade was completed. Wilson has looked like a player full of inspiration since Adams arrived at the Jets, and Rodgers was able to find both of them on Thursday night against the Texans.

It may have been the third win of the season for the Jets, but just the second all year for Adams who departed a struggling Las Vegas Raiders team. After the game, he spoke about how it felt to win, but also suit up alongside Wilson.

“Well I only got one other win this year, so it feels good!” Adams said on Amazon Prime. “I came here to try and change the culture, work with guys like this (Garrett Wilson), come out and have fun and we did that today.”

It was Adams who iced the game, as he scored his first touchdown since joining the Jets and combined with Rodgers for the first time since the duo were at the Green Bay Packers back in 2021. With Wilson in the form of his life and Adams now on the board, the Jets finally have confidence in the offense.

It also highlighted the growth from Wilson, who was mad at himself for dropping a catch in the end zone against the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 14, the day before the Jets traded for Adams. “Left some plays out on the field… I’ll figure out how to get back right,” Wilson told Mirror U.S. Sports after that game.

“Being at your best when it’s most needed. I know personally I have to score that touchdown in the red zone. Finish drives.” Wilson responded by making the catch of the season, with some fans even debating whether it was better than Odell Beckham Jr’s famous catch when he was a rookie at the New York Giants.

Wilson tried to dissect the play after the game but admitted he wasn’t thinking about much before making one of the all-time great NFL catches. “Honestly, I’m not thinking about much. How can I make a play? Give myself a chance to make a play,” Wilson said.

“Aaron believed in me. Once the ball’s going up you got no other choice but to go and try and do what you can do.” However, Wilson had an anxious wait as officials examined the play before announcing on the field that it was a touchdown.

“I’m glad they switched the call. I wasn’t so sure they would, and it was a cool play. We needed it. At the end of the day, I pride myself on coming through when we need it.”
