Pro Football Hall of Fame Brett Favre believes Deion Sanders could be tempted to join the Dallas Cowboys as head coach this offseason.

Despite Sanders ruling out the idea of ever leaving college football for the NFL, rumors have continued to swirl, linking the legendary cornerback back to his former team. Owner Jerry Jones is known to be close friends with Sanders after the latter played and won a Super Bowl with the organization in the mid-90s, with him impressing as a college football coach with Colorado this year.

And although Sanders has given no indication that he’d like to become an NFL coach, Favre is not going to rule it out at this stage, insinuating his former Atlanta Falcon teammate would be a great hire.

The legendary quarterback told TMZ: “If he does go in the direction of firing Mike McCarthy, which I have no idea which way he’s leaning, Deion may have a shot to step in there. I think he’s definitely worthy of a shot… I think the world of him. I know him personally. So, I know what kind of character he has.”

The Cowboys’ current head coach Mike McCarthy keeping his job heading into the 2025 season feels incredibly unlikely at this point, with owner Jerry Jones admitting that he considered making the move after their previous year with the team falling apart in 2024.

If Sanders is to move to the NFL, doing so with his former team feels the most likely. As previously mentioned, the legendary cornerback has a strong relationship with the organization’s owner, who is no stranger to bringing back old faces to the franchise.

Deion’s future has been questioned due to his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, being set to leave the school for the NFL Draft – where he is expected to be one of the top picks in the class. Shedeur’s elder brother, safety Shilo Sanders, is also expected to be selected, alongside wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter – who is also vying to be the first player taken overall.

Colorado has had an impressive season in 2024, with a 8-3 record heading into the final game of the year, looking set to miss out on a postseason spot after a surprise defeat to Kansas last weekend.
