The Las Vegas Raiders are set to hire their fourth head coach in the last seven years, excluding mid-season interim hires, as the franchise fired Antonio Pierce after a disappointing 4-13 season that saw the Raiders lose ten straight games at one point.

Las Vegas has begun scheduling and conducting interviews with some of the top candidates on the market, including Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, and Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. However, according to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, another candidate may have just entered their name into the Raiders head coaching search.

According to Bonsignore, Colorado Buffaloes head coach and NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has his eyes set on Las Vegas’ head coaching vacancy, with a source telling Bonsignore that Sanders has a very strong interest in the job.

“Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has his eyes on the Raiders’ coaching job, according to a person with knowledge of the situation,” Bonsignore wrote. “The person indicated that NFL-connected associates of Sanders reached out to the Raiders to express Sanders’ interest in the opening.”

Bonsignore adds that it is unknown whether the Raiders are interested in hiring Sanders as head coach.

“It’s unclear whether the Raiders are as interested in Sanders as he is in them,” Bonsignore added. “Tom Brady, who recently joined the franchise as a minority owner, is spearheading the search for a coach and general manager after the dismissal of Tom Telesco on Thursday. Brady will have a significant voice in the Raiders’ decisions.”

Sanders likely won’t be the Raiders head coach unless the franchise promises the former NFL defensive back that they can draft his sons, Shedeur and Shilo. Las Vegas currently owns the No.6 overall pick in the draft and will likely have to trade up if they want to land Shedeur Sanders, who is expected to be a top-three pick. On the other hand, Shilo Sanders is a projected Day 3 pick, so the Raiders could easily land the Colorado defensive back.

“The only way I would consider (an NFL job) is to coach my sons,” Sanders said on “Good Morning America” earlier this week.

We’ll see how Las Vegas’ coaching search transpires, but Sanders having an interest in the job will be an intriguing storyline to watch.
