Cowboys 4-time Pro Bowler projected to land $5 million deal this offseason image

The Dallas Cowboys have a few key pieces of the defense heading to the open market, including four-time Pro Bowler DeMarcus Lawrence.

He has spent his entire 11-year National Football League career as a member of the Cowboys but his future is up in the air. Lawrence is heading to free agency and there was a question whether he would retire. It doesn’t seem like that is going to be the case. He only was able to appear in four games last year, but he did have three sacks over that span.

Lawrence is 32 years old and could still help the Cowboys if they decide to bring him back. Because of his age and his limited play last season, he likely won’t cost much at all as well. Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame and Gilberto Manzano projected that he will end up landing a one-year deal this offseason worth $5 million.

“No. 47. DeMarcus Lawrence, DE, Dallas Cowboys,” Verderame and Manzano said. “Projected contract: One year, $5 million. Age: 32. Lawrence is a good player, but he has a few factors working against him. At 32 years old, he’s on the back end of his career, but also has 61.5 career sacks. Considering his age and current injury, along with not having double-digit sacks since 2018, a one-year deal with incentives makes sense after playing only four games this past season.”

The duo didn’t predict where he will land, but a reunion at least should be considered for the Cowboys. He’s been with the team for 11 years and wouldn’t cost much. Why not give him another chance? Especially after the Cowboys have freed up plenty of cap space over the last few days.
