Tom Brady reportedly played a role in convincing top quarterback prospect Bryce Underwood to flip his commitment from LSU to Michigan.

Brady had “multiple conversations” with Underwood over the weeks leading up to the quarterback’s Thursday commitment to the Wolverines, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Those talks were “one of many factors” that led Underwood to flip from LSU, Zenitz reported.

On3’s EJ Holland reported last week that Michigan also presented Underwood with a $10.5 million NIL offer.

Underwood had committed to LSU in January. He is the consensus No. 1 recruit in the 2025 class.

According to Zenitz, Brady and Underwood spoke for the first time on a FaceTime call “a few weeks ago.”

During their conversations, Brady “emphasized that he’d be a resource for Underwood moving forward,” according to Zenitz.

Brady’s calls capped off what ESPN’s Eli Lederman reported has been months of recruitment efforts in Ann Arbor, which is located a half-hour drive from Underwood’s high school in Belleville.

The Wolverines recruited Underwood “throughout his senior season,” and “intensified their pursuit of Underwood over the past two months,” according to Lederman.

According to On3’s Pete Nakos, LSU offered Underwood NIL compensation that would pay out approximately $6 million over three years, followed by a fourth-year escalator.

Michigan had the advantage of a reportedly higher NIL offer, along with the program’s home-state advantage and the commitment of Underwood’s teammate and four-star defensive back Elijah Dotson, who flipped from Pittsburgh to Michigan on Thursday.

Those perks, combined with reported mentorship offer from the most successful former quarterback in Michigan history, may have lost Brian Kelly his top recruit.

Brady spent two seasons as a backup at Michigan before earning the starting role in his third season with the 1998 Wolverines.

Underwood is likely to have a quicker path to starting in 2025. The Wolverines have been unable to land on a long-term replacement since the departure of J.J. McCarthy for the NFL draft, and four-star prospect Carter Smith de-committed from Michigan following the program’s reported recruitment of Underwood.

The Wolverines won’t be able to make Underwood’s arrival official until Dec. 4. Once signed, Underwood will be the first No. 1 overall recruit to join Michigan since Rashan Gary in 2016.
