Selena Gomez wore the chicest nail shade for her engagement.

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the singer and actress, 32, announced she was engaged to boyfriend Benny Blanco after one year of dating. In an Instagram carousel post, Gomez showed off her stunning marquise diamond ring along with the caption: “forever begins now..”

Her understated manicure — a semi-sheer nude color on short, rounded nails — perfectly complimented the sparkling diamond. On Instagram, her longtime nail artist Tom Bachik shared the exact polishes he used to create the timeless look: Chanel Le Vernis in Ballerina and Chanel Le Gel Coat.

“We simply wanted a beautiful meticulously manicured nail,” Bachik tells PEOPLE. “We chose a fresh sheer pink to give us that high glossed perfectly manicured look that evens out the tone and just highlights her natural nail. We kept her nails in a short, strong, natural almond shape completing the look.”

Gomez debuted the manicure that morning at the Academy Women’s Luncheon Presented by Chanel. She wore a textured jacket that featured a white collar and cuffs and a matching skirt adorned with buttons. The star, who was nominated for two Golden Globes on Monday, Dec. 9, accessorized with black tights and white platform heels.

After the engagement announcement was shared on Dec, 11, a source confirms exclusively to PEOPLE that Blanco proposed earlier in the day.

“It was very her,” says the source of the special moment, which included Taco Bell, a favorite of Gomez’s. “It was a total surprise to Selena.”

The source added that later in the evening, the couple had an “impromptu gathering” with their friends and family to celebrate their happy news.

“Benny and Selena were so excited to share the news right away with their loved ones,” the insider continued. “It’s such a true partnership between them.”

Gomez and Blanco started dating in June 2023 but had known each other for years prior and collaborated on multiple songs.

In December 2023, the Only Murders in the Building star confirmed their relationship when she “liked” fan account posts on Instagram of the pair, even commenting, “He is my absolute everything in my heart,” on one. The couple made their red carpet debut at the 2024 Emmys in January.
