I think that all cats are beautiful in their own unique way. But when it comes to cats with unique coats and markings, they’re super quick to turn heads. For Senior Scrappy, he’s been turning heads for several years. This super senior cat was once all black, but he developed vitiligo over time. And because of it, it transformed his coat into a dazzling spotted pattern. His images have been circulating online for years, and it’s easy to see why. He’s absolutely stunning!
Although Scrappy is no longer with us, I wanted to share his story and images with you all. He was a very beautiful kitty that I had the honor to write about many years ago when I was writing for another cat website, and I still feel he is just as beautiful even now as he was then. I know I can say that I’ve never seen a cat quite like him—and likely never will again.
Everyone, meet Senior Scrappy…
His Facebook page reads that, “He was born in 1997 as a black cat and only a few years ago he started turning white (maybe vitiligo) and has ended up with this extraordinary pattern.”
Scrappy’s owner, David, tells of how he met Scrappy:
“Scrappy was sitting on his own and, though he was a beautiful cat, we didn’t think others would regard him to be as cute as his siblings. I made the decision to take Scrappy as I knew he would be the last one to be taken, if at all.”
Scrappy’s owners were happy to share Scrappy with the world, and we’re grateful for it! They’ve even commissioned a book in his honor, which is for sale on Amazon. The book, called The Adventures of Scrappy the Cat, is about:
When Scrappy was born, he looked like an ordinary black cat. That is – until he turned seven, and spots of white appeared on his fur. It was then that the world saw what Scrappy always knew to be true: he was nothing short of EXTRAORDINARY. In fact, Scrappy was a SUPER CAT. Inspired by the true story of the late internet sensation Scrappy, The Adventures of Scrappy the Cat is a hilariously fun read that normalises vitiligo and allows fans to share the magic of this extraordinary cat with their children.
Scrappy, from before his metamorphosis into the feline media sensation he became. He was approximately age five on the left:
Scrappy fell ill in 2017 and made his passage over the rainbow bridge at the ripe old age of nineteen. He is still missed and adored by his cat dad today, and he will never be replaced. Scrappy had spunk and was tough, and was appropriately named for his ways of being a total boss kitty cat.
