Aaron Rodgers was labeled “despicable” for trying to force the ball to Davante Adams that could see promising receiver Garrett Wilson depart the New York Jets.

On Sunday, the Jets fell 19-9 to the Los Angeles Rams to fall to 4-11. The AFC East franchise’s dismal record is a far cry from preseason predictions that had them going to the Super Bowl, representing a colossal failure of a campaign.

In the loss to the Rams, Rodgers completed 28 of 42 passes for 256 yards and a lone touchdown to Adams. With the four-time MVP sitting on 499 touchdown passes across his storied career, he seemingly tried to force-feed the receiver so Adams could haul in the milestone 500th touchdown pass.

After the defeat, Rodgers admitted that he was aware of Adams potentially catching his 500th touchdown pass and even “wished” the 32-year-old would have. His comments infuriated former Jets linebacker Bart Scott, who ripped into the veteran quarterback on SNY.

“To have a 10-minute drive and end up with nothing,” Scott said during the postgame show. “And it’s because you’re going for records, right? Sentimental records. And you’re deciding who gets your record. And I think that’s – that’s despicable.”

Scott believes that as long as the former Green Bay Packers duo are in town, the Jets’ will remain in this laughable position. But the franchise could soon be dealt a particularly cruel blow if Wilson decides to depart New York.

Since trading for Adams on October 15, the three-time All-Pro has overtaken Wilson as Rodgers’ favored target. This has led to speculation the third-year receiver will request a trade from the Jets in the upcoming offseason.

Against the Rams, Wilson was targeted three times during the first 55 minutes of the game. Wilson caught four late passes and ended the day with six catches for 54 yards, but was clearly frustrated.

“I’d like to be involved, love to make an impact on the game, but people see it differently,” Wilson told reporters. “That’s out of my control.”

On Monday Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich agreed with the receiver. He said: “At the end of the day, we’ve got to find ways to get Garrett the ball more often. He’s one of the best players on our team, if not one of the best players in this league, especially at his position.”

Rodgers is questionable to feature in the Jets’ next game against the high-flying 12-3 Buffalo Bills in an AFC East showdown on Sunday, Dec. 29.
