Aneesah Morrow is averaging 17.3 points already this season for LSU and starred in a 117-44 win over Charleston Southern on Tuesday, but Angel Reese won’t be surprised.
Morrow had 21 points and 20 rebounds in Tuesday’s win to improve LSU to 3-0, with teammate Mikaylah Williams scoring 25 points. Flau’jae Johnson also recorded a double-double, with 18 points and three rebounds.
Reese was the Tigers leader in points and rebounds last season, and Morrow has drawn comparisons to ‘Bayou Barbie’ as she enters her junior year. Morrow has also been considered one of the top college basketball players heading into this season, which is deserved according to Reese.

As LSU attempted to pursue another national championship, Reese gave a passionate speech as she asked for Morrow to be acknowledged more by reporters and fans. The current WNBA star admitted that she couldn’t fulfill her role with the Tigers without Morrow.
“Me and Nees work hard every single day. I can’t do my job without Aneesah,” Reese said in a moment of appreciation while in her final season with LSU. “So understanding like, everybody gives me the praise but you’ve got to give Aneesah the praise for the things that she does too.
“She does a lot of great things that I don’t do. So, I just don’t want to always get all the praise like giving Aneesah her props, and giving her flowers, she’s one of the top guards in the country. I don’t want this to always be on me.
“I don’t get the Player of the Year without Aneesah. I don’t get my rebounds without Aneesah I don’t score without Aneesah, so coaches yeah, ya’ll can give me my props but we are both Players of the Year at this point. Period.”
Morrow has already stepped up in the absence of Reese, and become a big leader at LSU despite only transferring to the program in 2023. Morrow spent two seasons with DePaul but has already won over head coach Kim Mulkey since arriving at Baton Rouge.
“She was a transfer last year; she had an unbelievable year,” Mulkey said. “Look for her to be one of our leaders and captains this year. She can take you off the dribble, she can shoot the 3-ball. She and Angel Reese were just dominant on the glass for us last year, and I expect her to be the same way.”
Morrow has set her own standards for this season and is already off to a strong start. “I of course want to continue to get my double-doubles, defensively and offensively. I do have a goal to potentially break the record in steals,” Morrow said.
“I came so close to that last year. Also just being able to stay consistent. I feel like my whole career that is what I pride myself on, that consistency and being able to rebound the ball and score offensively. I also do not want to just be a shot-taker, but a shot-maker.”
