The Miami Heat have responded decisively to Jimmy Butler’s trade request, signaling a dramatic shift in their relationship with the six-time All-Star. On Thursday, reports surfaced that Butler had formally asked to be traded. By Friday, the Heat issued a firm response, announcing a seven-game suspension for Butler due to “multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team.”
The team also stated that they are now open to listening to trade offers, a stark departure from their recent stance.
The Heat’s statement read:
“We have suspended Jimmy Butler for seven games for multiple instances of conduct detrimental to the team over the course of the season, particularly in the last several weeks. Through his actions and statements, he has shown he no longer wants to be part of this team. Jimmy Butler and his representative have indicated that they wish to be traded; therefore, we will listen to offers.”
The suspension not only underscores the Heat’s disapproval of Butler’s behavior but also carries significant financial consequences for the forward. Each missed game will cost Butler $346,543, totaling approximately $2.35 million in lost wages over the seven-game stretch.
