Max Verstappen’s dream of indulging in food post-retirement was quickly dismissed by his girlfriend Kelly Piquet.

The 27-year-old Dutchman, who made an early entry into Formula 1, has expressed no desire to continue racing into his late 30s. His current contract with Red Bull extends until 2028, but he remains non-committal about his future with them beyond next season.

If he does sign a new deal after that, he insists it will be his last in the sport. The idea of escaping the strict regimen is appealing to Verstappen, especially as it would mean less stringent control over his weight. He shared this during the filming of Viaplay’s documentary, ‘Max Verstappen: Anatomy of a Champion’, available on Amazon Prime.

Both Verstappen and Piquet were en route to a ceremony where he was to be honored as an Officer of the Order of the Chamber of Nassau – one of the highest accolades in his home country, the Netherlands – in September 2022. Just days after the end of the F1 summer break, they were asked if they had a “nice holiday? ”

“Yeah,” responded Piquet, daughter of motorsport legend Nelson, before Verstappen was asked: “Did you gain any weight, Max?” He replied: “Yeah, I gained three, three-and-a-half kilos again. But I lost it in one week.”

“After 40, it doesn’t work like that anymore, I’m afraid,” quipped the interviewer, leading Verstappen to concede: “Oh, but when I’m 40, I’m not racing anymore. So then I can eat what I want.”

This notion, however, didn’t gel with Piquet who firmly corrected him: “No, no, no.” A somewhat sheepish Verstappen replied: “No? I’m gonna become like a sausage roll.” Piquet couldn’t help but laugh as she reinforced: “No.”

She was equally taken aback by another revelation about Verstappen’s life after leaving the track – his interest in switching from four wheels to two. When queried about potential motorcycle rides, he mentioned: “It’s still in the Netherlands.”

Piquet interjected: “Which bike? ” To which Verstappen revealed: “My Harley [Davidson].”

Her inquiry continued: “You have a Harley? For what?” He elaborated: “Well, exactly that. What would be nice is to maybe put it in the living room. Maybe it’s better in a few years’ time, I’ll have time to ride it with my fat belly on the tank, you know?”

She teased him with a chuckle: “You can join the Hells Angels of Monaco.”

The duo enjoys life in the sparkling confines of Monaco, sharing a home with Piquet’s daughter and reveling in the luxury of their penthouse complete with an indoor gym and a breath-taking balcony overlooking the Mediterranean.
